The Digital Revolution and its impact on jobs and skills

On the basis of selected sources in English and German languages the aim of this article is to show both the positive and side effects of the progressing automation of production and digitalisation of the economy, which puts millions of jobs in jeopardy. Both those phenomena are not necessarily associated with improving methods of work and intellectual potential of workers. There is the so called de-skilling effect of automation, which was confirmed by some research-studies not only with regards to the impact of software over manual skills. The biggest challenge is to invent the appropriate institutions which could handle all social and economic upheavals resulting from contemporary technological change.
