Author
Subir Rana

The paper presents a montage of the epic movement for bhu swaraj (land sovereignty) and gives a detailed chronological account of the punitive and violent nature of state-citizen encounter in two twin villages of Uttar Pradesh. Further, the paper also tries to analyse the veracity of land use patterns and current mode of urbanisation besides examining and contesting varied notions of citizenship, sovereignty, and ‘regimes of dispossession’.
