This paper examines how informal economy in urban cities in Zimbabwe and in developing countries more generally, despite being negatively associated with illegality, tax evasion and rudimentary activities, plays a pivotal role in minimizing social exclusion, destitution and reducing employment, that is, in meeting the needs of the people.
