Abstract The paper addresses the limits and opportunities on insider research of irregular migration. Different from many studies of irregular migration, where the research is carried out in countries of destination, I conducted a transnational, or multi-sited ethnography. My claim is that migrant researchers have an enhanced capacity to play multiple roles while conducting research at home and abroad.
