Abstract This paper reflects upon the trajectory of my work on the sociology of religion in the light of the ongoing diversification of modern Philippine society. My close encounters with the vagaries of religious diversity in the course of fieldwork experiences has enabled an appreciation and assessment of competing forces toward monolithic and pluralist frames of reference.
