 Introduction
In this paper I attempt a post-colonial anthropology of healing that documents a significant therapeutic practice reported from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.2 The period under analysis covers the formative years of the Ashram, from the 1930s to the 1960s, when it was presided over by its masters, first Sri Aurobindo and the Mother together, and then, after the death of the former in 1950, by the latter.
